Empowering Buganda Farmers: Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga’s Visit to Anthony Mateega’s Farm in Mawokota
In a powerful display of Buganda’s commitment to agricultural excellence, Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga recently visited the farm of Anthony Mateega in Mawokota, highlighting the transformative impact of the Emmwanyi Terimba campaign. This initiative, which translates to “Grow More Coffee,” is not just about coffee farming—it’s about creating sustainable livelihoods, fostering innovation, and eradicating poverty across Buganda.
A Model of Mixed Farming Success
During his visit on February 27, 2025, Katikkiro Mayiga toured Anthony Mateega’s farm, a shining example of diversified agriculture. Mateega, a seasoned mixed farmer and president of Radio Maria, has integrated dairy farming, coffee cultivation, and poultry rearing into his operations. The Katikkiro was visibly impressed as he inspected Mateega’s dairy cows feeding in a well-constructed wooden barn, the lush coffee plantations stretching across the landscape, and a thriving poultry unit enclosed in a sturdy wire fence. The farm also featured a construction site, hinting at Mateega’s ongoing efforts to expand his agricultural enterprise.
