There is a lot of usage of artificial herbicides and other biochemical sprays in our neighbourhood. This has had a direct effect on bees and the eco-system whereby bees are now fewer. This impacts on the yields because bees are the major pollinators. Hence, in order to mitigate this problem, we have decided to put up bee hives in our coffee plantation to enable us have guarantee for pollen transmission.In the meantime, the honey will subsidise our expenditures in the coffee shamba

PROJECT CHALLENGES

Lack of Modern Beekeeping Equipment

Many farmers still use traditional hives (like log hives), which yield less honey.
Modern equipment like protective gear, smokers, and extractors are expensive or unavailable in rural areas.

Climate Change & Unpredictable Weather

Irregular rainfall and prolonged droughts affect flowering seasons and bee activity.
Excessive rain can destroy hives or reduce nectar availability.

Limited Market Access & Poor Pricing

Beekeepers often lack access to good markets or buyers.
Middlemen buy honey at very low prices.
Poor processing and packaging reduce the quality and competitiveness of Ugandan honey.
